Faridpur: The flood situation in different parts of Faridpur has taken an unremittingly deteriorating trend with the River Padma level rising fast.

Faridpur Water Development Board officials said the Padma was flowing 75centimetres above the danger level at Goalanda point in the last 12 hours.

Some 50,000 people in three upazilas—Sadar, Charbhadrason and Sadarpur—are reeling under flood water.

Besides, academic activities at different educational institutions are being disrupted as most of the school buildings in Dicrir Char, Narartek, Aliabad, Gadadhardangi and East Chartepakhola under sadar upazila have been submerged by the flood water.

Abdul Wahab, headmaster of East Chartepakhola Government Primary School, said flood water has entered the school building in the last four days.

Class attendance at the school was also thin though a temporary bamboo bridge was set up with the help of locals to ensure unhindered crossing of the students and teachers.

Shibpado Dey, district primary education officer, said the headmasters of the affected schools have been asked to continue academic activities in other safer places or houses.

Dr Abu Nayeem Mohammad Abdus Sabur, additional deputy commissioner, said the upazila nirbahi officers have been directed to take necessary steps in distributing relief materials among the flood affected people.

Fifteen tonnes of rice have been allocated for the flood victims while financial help has been given to those affected by river erosion in Bhanga upazila.
