Flooding cuts off Sherpur-Jamalpur road link

Sherpur: Vehicular movement on the Sherpur-Jamalpur Highway came to a halt on Saturday night as the road went under water due to flooding and heavy rainfall, reports UNB.
Golam Mostafa, gauge reader of Sherpur Water Development Board, said the Old Brahmaputra River was flowing three centimetres above its danger level at Brahmaputra bridge point on Saturday night.
According to the district administration, some 50 villages of six unions in Sadar upazila of the district went under water leaving at least 50,000 people marooned.
Besides, away in Jamalpur, train plying on the Jamalpur-Dewanganj route that has remained halted since Friday is yet to resume, said Jamalpur Railway Station master Jahurul Islam.
The authorities suspended train movement on the Jamalpur-Bangbandhu Bridge East Railway station route on Saturday night.
