Kishoreganj:  A Kishoreganj court on Wednesday sentenced United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) leader Ranjan Chowdhury and his Bangladeshi aide Pradip Marak to life term imprisonment in two cases.

District and Sessions Judge Mahbub Ul Islam pronounced the verdict in presence of the convicts.

The court also fined the convicts Tk20, 000 each.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB 9) members arrested Ranjan Chowdhury alias Major Ranjan, in his forties, former general secretary of Dhubra district unit Ulfa, and his Bangladeshi aide Pradip Marak, in his fifties, of Bakura village in Jhinaigati upazila of Sherpur, from Bhraib upazila in Kishoreganj on 17 July 2010.

The law enforcers also recovered two pistols, four bullets, four handmade bombs and some bomb-making materials from Ranjan’s hideout at Lakshmipur village in Bhairab upazila.

RAB filed four separate cases, including for intrusion, arms, explosives and terrorism, against the duo with Bhairab police.
