Satkhira: Police arrested five suspected militants from a madrasah at remote Khaliya village in Ashashuni upazila of Sathkhira on Friday afternoon, reports UNB.

The arrestees are Mehedi Hasan Imran, 23, hailing from Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district; Rafiqul Islam, 27, of Hasnabad village under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna; Mosharraf Hossain, 20, of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur; Nazim Hossain, 17; and Yamin Hossain, 19, of Chardhupur village in Zanjira upazila of Shariatpur.

SM Shahnewaj Dalim, chairman of Khajra union parishad, said the arrestees had been staying at Hafijia Madrasah at the village for the last 20 days to avoid police arrest.

Noticing their suspicious movement, locals detained them from the madrasah. Later, they were handed over to police at about 5:00pm.

The UC chairman claimed that they arrestees confessed to their involvement with militant activities.

Confirming the arrest, Ashashuni police officer-in-charge Golam Rahman said they were interrogating the arrestees.
