Tangail: Awami League candidate Shahiduzzaman Khan won the Ghatail mayoral post by defeating BNP candidate Faruk Hossain Dhala in municipal elections held on Sunday.

Shahid, also Ghatail upazila Bangladesh Awami Juba League joint general secretary, gained 8893 votes while Faruk got only 4621 votes.

Returning and district polling officer Tajul Islam said three candidates fought for mayor post and 26 for nine counsellor posts and seven for reserved counsellor post for women.
