Jhenaidah: A man, named Shahidul Islam, was shot to death in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Horinakundu upazila in Jhenaidah in the early hours of Friday.

Shahidul Islam, believed to be in his forties, is a resident of the village of Pardakhalpur in the upazila, said RAB officials.

The Jhenaidah RAB camp duty officer Assistant Sub-inspector Omor Faruque said being tipped off a patrolling team of RAB members went to Falshi field area on a drive and involved in a gunfight with miscreants at about 1:30am.

Later, RAB officials found bullet-hit Shahidul while the other miscreants manage to flee from the spot.

RAB took Shahidul to Horinakundu Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Horikundu Police Officer-in-charge Mahtab Uddin said the body was kept at the police station.
