Man in seventies dies taking food ‘poisoned by domestic help’

A 72-year-old man in Rajshahi has died after eating food that was supposedly poisoned by his domestic help, who is currently on run, said police.
The deceased, Abdul Hannan, a retired bank officer, died on Friday while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where, he and his wife Jharna Begum, 60, were admitted after the accused female domestic help had allegedly mixed sedative drug in their breakfast and fled the house stealing valuables.
Jharna Begum, however, has regained consciousness and is still in hospital. Her condition is stable now, said Rajpara police officer-in-charge Aman Ullah.
The couple lives alone in a house at Mahishbathan in Rajshahi city. Their three married daughters live separately while their only son works in Dhaka.
It was understood that very recently the couple hired the female domestic help.
Police have launched a manhunt to capture the accused woman.
