With rumours already swirling that war crimes convict Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman might be executed tonight, authorities are taking preparations to execute him, confirmed State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Friday.
The minister said, ‘Kamaruzzaman did not seek presidential mercy. So we are taking preparations to implement the order of the Appellate Division.’
Meanwhile security has been tightened in and out the Dhaka Central Jail.
Earlier at about 8:00pm today, Lalbagh zone deputy commissioner Mohammad Mafiz Uddin Ahmed, along with a physician, was seen going inside the jail.
An hour earlier a trolley with bamboos in it moved into the jail gate.
A large number journalists, RAB officials and plain-clothes police have gathered in front of the jail gate.
