Naogaon: A college student was set ablaze allegedly by her former husband in Atrai upazila of Naogaon on Sunday, reports UNB.

The victim is Shahnaz Begum, a Class XII student at Mollah Azad Memorial College, also daughter of Soukhin Mondal.

Local people said Shahnaz and Sadequl Alam Khan Sazzad got separated one and a half years ago. However, Sazzad used to pressurise her to remarry him which she turned down.

Angered at repeated refusals, Sazzad poured petrol on Shahnaz at Tinmatha of the upazila headquarters in the afternoon and set her afire.

With burn injuries to the face and two hands, the victim was first taken to the upazila health complex from where she was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, local people caught the Sazzad red-handed and handed him over to police.
