After the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Kamaruzzaman, he will be buried at Sherpur according to his last wish, said Kamaruzzaman’s family members.
But several organisations including Sherpur Freedom Fighters Council have protested that they will obstruct the entering of Kamaruzzaman’s body in Sherpur. Meanwhile, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the ministry has nothing to do in this connection.
Kamaruzzaman’s older son Hasan Iqbal Wami on Saturday said, ‘he (Kamaruzzaman) will be buried beside his orphanage Madrasa according to his wish.’
Wami said the issue of obstruction from people is just a rumour.
Sherpur Freedom Fighters’ Command commander Nurul Islam Hiru said ‘We have urged higher authorities not to bring the body of Kamaruzzaman in Sherpur. Otherwise, we declare to protest calling strike, blockade, hartal and bringing out processions.’
Earlier on the issue, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan on 9 April said, freedom fighters may protest in burying a war criminal. The ministry will not interfere in that. But steps will be taken if the law and order situation deteriorates.
