‘Drug trader’ hurt in Jaipurhat ‘gunfight’

Jaipurhat: An alleged drug peddler was injured in a reported gunfight with police at Rukindipur in Akkelpur upazila in Jaipurhat early on Thursday.
The injured is Poritosh alias Pori, a resident of the village, reports UNB.
Akkelpur Police Officer-in-charge Sirajul Islam said being tipped off that a gang of drug peddlers, including Pori, was staying in the area to sell drugs, police launched a drive there early on Thursday.
Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
Pori sustained bullet injures during the gunfight while his associates managed to flee the scene.
Later, police arrested Pori and had him admitted to Jaipurhat Adhunik Zila Hospital.
He is now receiving treatment there under police custody.
Police also recovered 50 pieces of Yaba tablet and some sharp weapons from the spot.
Pori is wanted in six cases with Akkelpur Police, the OC added.
