College teacher held in Jessore over militant link
Jessore: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) members arrested a government college teacher from Upashahar of the Jessore town on early Friday for his suspected link to banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The arrestee is Sadiqur Rahman Palash, 29, an economics lecturer of Jhenaidah Govt Nurun Nahar Women’s College and son of M Shahjahan Ali of Andolpota village in Jessore Sadar upazila.
He is reportedly a central committee member of the outlawed group.
At a press conference in the afternoon, Special Superintendent of CID (Jessore and Kushtia) Shamsul Alam said police arrested Palash from his house at Sharathi Mill Intersection of Upashahar at about 2:00am, reports UNB.
A computer, a pen drive and some religious books were also recovered from his possession, he said adding that the arrest was made as part of an anti-militancy drive.
In 2012, police arrested Palash from Kataban area of the capital while carrying out party activities in the area. He was a Dhaka University student then.
Later, a case was filed against him under the Anti-terrorism Act which is under trial now.
There is an allegation that Palash was encouraging his students to get involved in militancy, Shamsul added.
