Man killed in Brahmanbaria ‘gunfight’
Brahmanbaria: A man was killed during a reported gunfight with police at Kosba upazila in Brahmanbaria in the early hours of Tuesday.
The deceased is Rahiz Mia, believed to be about 48 years old, resident of the village of Pathariatek under Moniyond union of Akhaura police station. The Kosba police Officer-in-charge Mohiuddin Ahmed said being tipped off that a gang of drug peddlers was staying in Konabari area of Kosba to sell drugs, police launced a drive in the area at about 1:30am.
Sensing the presence of police, the suspected drug traders opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
Rahiz Mia sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight while the others managed to flee the spot.
Later, the body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue of the district. Police claimed that five police members including a Sub-inspector (SI) were injured during the gunfight.
The law-enforcers also recovered a pipe gun, four cartridges, around 100 bottles of liquor, 300 Yaba pills, and 15kgs of ganja.
