Narsingdi: Miscreants hacked the caretaker of a Hindu temple at Sadar upazila in Narsingdi on Tuesday night.

The injured Chittyaranjan Aryan, caretaker of Ragunathpur Sri Sri Kali Temple at Amdia Sadar upazila, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police and local people said three young men riding a motorcycle came to Chittyaranjan’s grocery shop near the temple on Dhaka-Sylter Highway at about 10:00pm and stabbed the temple caretaker.

Two of the miscreants were masked, said the local people.

Police said when local people went to the spot as Chittyaranjan cried out for help, the miscreants fled from the scene. Local people took Chittyaranjan to a private hospital in Panchdona, later he was shifted to DMCH as his condition deteriorated.

The Panchdona police post in-charge Sub-inspector Mohsin Hossain said doctors found stab-mark on Chittyaranjan’s head, shoulder, and stomach.

However, Narsingdi city puja celebration council General Secretary Binoy Shaha said a spade of panic spread among the Hindus in the area following the incident.
