Khulna: Detectives in a drive arrested six people along with a tiger skin foiling a bid to smuggle it out at Chakratala village of Koyra in Khulna on Wednesday night.

The arrestees were Abul Kalam, 44, Sohrab, 42, Abdur Rab, 63, Jamal, 33, Masum Billah, 29, and Golam Rabbani, 24, all residents of the upazila.

Tipped off, a team of DB police raided the house of Abul Kalam and recovered the tiger skin and arrested six people at about 8:00pm, said Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Khulna Detective Branch.

Police also recovered a pipe gun and three rounds of bullets from the house.  

The arrestees were taking preparation to smuggle the tiger skin out of the country via capital Dhaka and Sohrab made the deal, said Akkas Ali.

The market value of the tiger skin would be Tk18-20 lakh, he added.

A case was filed in this connection.
