Khagrachhari: A teenage boy was killed as a streak of thunderbolt struck him at Santila in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari on Thursday night.

The Panchhari Police Officer-in-chargeAbdul Jabbar said the incident took place at about 8:30pm when a streak of thunderbolt hit Faruk, aged around 17 years old, while he was having dinner, leaving him dead on the spot.

Lightning in the course of tropical storms usually strikes Bangladesh during the pre-monsoon and the monsoon season, which runs from June to September.

According to the disaster management department, 200 people have died on average every year from lightning strikes since 2011, reports AFP.
