Kushtia: A man was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Mirpur upazila in Kushtia in the early hours of Sunday.

RAB-12 officials said the deceased is Mukul Munshi, aged around 45 years, a member of a robber gang. He is also a resident of the village of Baro Mile at Bheramara upazila in Kushtia.

Kushtia RAB-12 Company commander Major Mosaddek Ibn Mujib said being tipped of, the law enforcers raided Moshan area when a gang of criminals was planning to commit robbery on Kushtia-Meherpur road at about 3:00am.

Sensing the presence of RAB members the gang opened fire at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate with gunfire triggering a ‘gunfight’.

During the ‘gunfight’ Mukul was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his cohorts managed to escape.

Mosaddek Ibn Mujib said RAB officials also seized a foreign pistol, two bullets, two machetes, and a saw from the spot.
