A five-member Appellate Division panel headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha issued the order in the morning.

Senior assistant judges Sohel Ahammed and Jagannath Pare were killed in a suicide bomb attack at Purba Chadkati area in Jhalakathi town on 14 November, 2005.

On 29 May, 2006, a Jhalakathi court sentenced to death seven leaders of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), including its founder Shaykh Abdur Rahman, its military head Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai, its majlish-e-shura members Ataur Rahman Sunny, Abdul Awal and Khaled Saifullah, suicide bomber Iftekhar Hasan Al Mamun and Asadur Rahman Arif.
