Joypurhat: A woman was tortured to death allegedly by her husband at village of Komorgram Paschimpara at Sadar upazila in Joypurhat early on Monday.

The deceased is Delwara Begum, wife of Rezaul Kabir of the village.

Joypurhat Assistant superintendent (circle) Ashok Kumar Paul said Rezaul used to quarrel with his wife Delwara as he had no work.

Rezaul again locked into altercation with his wife on Sunday night.

At one stage, he beat Delwara and strangulated her with a pillow which left her dead at about 1:00am.

On information, police recovered the body early in the morning.

Police also arrested Rezaul from the spot.
