3 policemen among 5 facing charge-sheet in gold smuggling case
Dhaka: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday approved a charge-sheet against five people, including three policemen, in a gold smuggling case.
The Commission at its regular meeting on Wednesday approved the charge-sheet against them, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
The charge sheet will be submitted before the court against suspended Rampura Police sub-inspector Manjurul Islam, constables Wahidul Islam and Akash Chowdhury, police source Mahfuzul Alam Rony and driver Sujit Sikder.
According to ACC sources, a police team from Rampura Police Station in a drive seized 235 bars of gold in the capital on 13 March 2014. But, they in collusion with each other displaced 165 bars while the remaining ones were handed over to the police station.
On 1 April 2014, the Detective Branch (DB) of police recovered 149 bars from Rampura police and arrested four people, including three cops in this regard.
Later, a case was filed against five people on 7 April 2014.
