11 get death penalty for killing Lakshmipur BNP activist
Lakshmipur: A Lakshmipur court on Tuesday convicted eleven people and handed death sentence to them for killing BNP activist Maulana Babor Mia in 2003.
The convicts are Alam, Miraj, Manju, Saiful Islam, Abdul Shahid, Bala Munshi, Mahiuddin, a resident of Titarkandi village, Mainuddin, a resident of Purba Rajapur, Morshed Alam, a resident of Gobindapur, Masud, a resident of Jagannathpur village, and Mohammad Abdul Basher, a resident of Madhay Gobindapur of Sadar upazila.
According to the prosecution, Babor Mia, a resident of Titarkandi village and a BNP activist, was shot and stabbed to death by his rivals in a clash while he was returning home at night after watching a cricket match on 8 March, 2003.
Later victim’s brother Nurul Islam filed a case with Sadar police on 10 March.
Police later submitted a charge sheet accusing 14 people.
After examining all records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Saidur Rahman declared the verdict, acquitting three accused.
