Barisal: Five persons were killed after a Mahendra, a utility vehicle used for public transport, collided with a truck at Kashipur in Sadar upazila, Barisal on Thursday morning.

The Barisal Airport police said five people died on the spot as the Barisal-bound Mahendra with 10 passengers collided with a Satkhira-bound goods-laden truck at about 9:00am.

Plying of vehicles has halted due to the accident.

At least five people were injured in the accident.

The injured were taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal.

The victims were passengers of the Mahenrdra. Two of the deceased are Mahendra’s driver Swapan Das, in his forties, also a resident of North Rahmatput of Babuganj upazila, and Amirun Nesa, believed to be 37, of East Rahmatpur of the upazila.
