Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF in Lalmonirhat

Lalmonirhat: A Bangladeshi was killed and two others sustained bullet injuries as Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members opened fire at Burirhat border in Lalmonirhat early on Friday.

The deceased is Mohibur Rahman, in his late thirties, a resident of village of Malgara near Gorol union of Kaliganj upazila. He was a cattle trader.

Identities of the injured could not be known immediately.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local people said members of Shatbhandaria BSF camp crossed the no man’s land while chasing a group of cattle traders near Burirhat border in Kaliganj upazila at about 4:00am.

The BSF members also opened fire to the Bangladeshi cattle traders and left Mohibur dead on the spot. Two other Bangladeshis were also injured during the firing. Later, the other cattle traders recovered the injured from the spot.

Confirming the incident Lalmonirhat BGB Battalion-15 Commanding Officer Hayati said they lodged a strong protest with their Indian counterparts and called for a flag meeting in this connection.
