Dhaka: As family members of war crimes convict Mir Quasem Ali met him in Kashimpur Central Jail Part-2 and prison authority taking preparations seemingly for executing the 64-year-old convict, the charges against the Jamaat-e-Islami leader have now come again into discussion.

Following were charges framed against Mir Quasem Ali by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 on September 5, 2013.  

Charge No 1: Abduction of Md Omar-ul-Islam Chowdhury on November 8, 1971, confining and torturing him in different torture cells including Dost Mohammad Building, Salma Monjil and Dalim Hotel for days.

Charge No 2: Abduction of Lutfur Rahman Faruk and Siraj on November 19, 1971, confining them to Dalim hotel and torturing Faruk for several days at different locations.

Charge No 3: Abduction of Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on 22 or 23 November, 1971, confining him in Dalim Hotel and torturing him mercilessly for days.

Charge No 4: Abduction of Saifuddin Khan on November 24, 1971, and confining and torturing him at Dalim Hotel.

Charge No 5: Abduction of Abdul Jabbar Member, on November 25, 1971, confining and torturing him for days at Dalim Hotel.

Charge No 6: Abduction of Harun-ur-Rashid Khan on November 28, 1971, confining and torturing him for days at Dalim Hotel and Salma Manjil.

Charge No 7: Abduction, confinement and torture of Md Sanaullah Chowdhury, Habibur Rahman and Elias.

Charge No 8: Abduction of Nurul Quddus, Md. Nasir, Nurul Hashem and others on November 29, 1971, confining and torturing them in Dalim Hotel.

Charge No 9: Abduction, confinement and torture of Nuruzzaman along with his cousins Syed Md Osman Hossain, Syed Md Jamaluddin, Syed Md Kamaddin, Syed Md Sarwaruddin, Syed Md Golam Kibria and Syed Md Golam Rahman.

Charge No 10: Abduction, confinement and torture of Md Zakaria, Md Salahuddin alias Chuttu Miah, Iskander Alam Chowdhury, Md Nazim Uddin along with many others.

Charge No 11: Abduction, confinement, torture and subsequently murder of Freedom Fighter Jasim in Dalim Hotel.

Charge No 12: Abduction confinement and torture of Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Ranjit Das alias Lathu and Tuntu Sen alias Raju, murdering the last two and plundering and setting fire to many shops and houses, making the inhabitants to flee to India.

Charge No 13: Abduction, confinement and torture of Sunil Kanti Bordhon alias Dulal and many others in Dost Mohammad Building and Dalim Hotel torture camps.

Charge No 14: Abduction, confinement and torture of Nasiruddin Chowdhury for many days in Dalim Hotel.

The ICT-2 in their November 2, 2014 verdict found Mir Quasem guilty of 10 charges out of the total 14 and sentenced him to death for charge number 11 and 12.

The tribunal handed down death to Quasem unanimously under charge number 11 but it gave him maximum punishment under charge number 12 by majority.

‘‘The sentence of imprisonment for 20 years for charge number 2, 7 years for charge number 3, 7 years for charge number 4, 7 years for charge number 6, 7 years for charge number 7, 7 years for charge number 9, 7 years for charge number 10 and 10 years for charge number 14 will obviously get merged in to the sentence of death’, said the judgement.

The apex court however, acquitted Mir Quasem from charge number twelve, upholding his death for charge number eleven.
