Rizvi sent to police custody to be quizzed
Dhaka: A court on Wednesday placed BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on a five-day police custody in an arson case filed with the Jatrabari police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Rezaul Karim passed the order when sub-inspector Zahidul Islam of Detective Branch and also the investigation officer of the case produced him before the court with a 10-day custody prayer on expiry of his three-day custody in another arson case.
The court also turned down a bail petition filed by Rizvi’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah.
On January 23, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a Narayanganj-bound bus of Glory Paribahan when it was crossing Khaterpool area, leaving at least 30 of its passengers burn injured.
Of the inured, a man, Nur-e-Alam, 40, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on February 1.
On January 24, sub-inspector KM Nuruzzaman of Jatrabari police filed a case against 68 BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including BNP leader Rzivi, and a number of unnamed people, for the arson attack on the bus in Jatrabari. BNP chief Khaleda Zia was made named mastermind in the case.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi from a house at Baridhara in the city on January 31.
