Tabith pledges to sweep out corruption
Dhaka: Tabith Awal, a BNP-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation polls, on Friday promised that he will stamp out corruption from the City Corporation if he gets elected.
‘People face harassments when they go to the City Corporation for availing themselves of any service, and corruption is the main reason why they are harassed. I'll take necessary measures to check corruption,’ he said while speaking at a programme at a city restaurant.
Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan), a civil society platform working for good governance, organsied a meeting between the mayoral candidates of Dhaka North City Corporation and citizens ahead of the upcoming city polls.
Tabith Awal said it will not be possible to improve the services of the City Corporations if corruption is not eradicated.
‘A gap has been created between the government and people. If I'm elected a mayor, I'll take people's demand to the government," he said.
Replying to a question from a citizen, he said he will try to identify the problems of each area first and then resolve those.
Among other candidates, AL-backed mayoral candidate Annisul Huq, Gansanghati Andolan candidate for DNCC Zonayed Saki, CPB-supported Abdullah Al Kafi and JSD-backed Nader Chowdhury attended at the progamme.
