Sirajganj: Police in a drive arrested young man in connection with a case filed for kidnapping a minor boy at Chuldhari village in Shahzadpur, Sirajganj on Friday.

The detainee was Aknuj Ali, son of Abdul Aziz at Chuldhari village in the upazila.

Shahzadpur Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Hye said Aknuj took Naim, 5, son of Ehia Molla of Kayempur Pashchimpara village, to an unknown place while he was playing near his village on 30 March.

Later, Aknuj demanded Tk 20,000 as ransom from the father of Naim over phone and threatened to throw Naim’s body into River Jamuna after killing him if he (Naim’s father) failed to fulfill the ransom demand.

On 1 April, Ehia Mollah sent Tk 15,000 to Aknuj through ‘bKash’.

After getting the money, Aknuj left Naim near Baghabari bridge and asked his family members to pick him up from there.

Later a case was filed in this connection.

Meanwhile, after tracking the mobile phone record of Aknuj, a team of police conducted a raid at the house of Aknuj and arrested him on Friday morning.
