A case was filed with Tongi Police Station against seven people, including the factory owner Mokbul Hossain, in connection with the deadly fire incident at Tampaco Foils Limited at BSCIC industrial estate in Tongi.

Tongi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Talukdar said Abdul Quader,  father of Jewel who died in the factory fire, filed the case on Sunday night.

The death toll from the fire that raged through a tobacco packaging factory at Tongi has climbed to 31 with the recovery of two more bodies from the debris on early Monday.

The firefighters rescue team retrieved the bodies from the wreckage on the fourth floor of the six-storey building at about 6:45am, and sent those to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A blast at Tampaco Foils Ltd sparked off huge fire at about 6:00pm on Saturday and led to the collapse of the four-storey factory.

Around 150 workers were in the factory building when the boiler went off but factory owner Syed Md Mokbul Hossain, also a former lawmaker of Sylhet-6 constituency, told reporters on Saturday that 75 workers were working in his factory on Friday night.
