Security intensified in Sholakia ahead of Eid jamaat

A three-tier security measure has been taken in and around Sholakia Eidgah ground here where the country’s biggest congregation of Eid-ul-Azha will be held on Tuesday (13 September) as per the tradition followed for the last 189 years.
‘A three-tier security measure will be ensured for the Sholakia Eid jamaat scheduled to be held at 9:00am tomorrow,’ said Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Ajimuddin Biswas.
He said, apart from the police, members of para-military Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), plainclothes detectives, Bangladesh Ansar Battalion and an adequate number of volunteers will remain active in and around the Eidgah ground and its surrounding areas, reports BSS.
‘Devotees will be able to enter the Eidgah along with only a prayer mat while house owners in the area were asked to inform the authorities concerned whether they have any guests,’ the DC added.
Talking to BSS, superintendent of police (SP) of Kishoreganj Anower Hossain Khan said a foolproof security measure has been taken for a smooth holding of the largest Eid jamaat here.
Referring to the militants’ attack on the people during the Eid-ul-Fitr on July 7, the SP said checking with metal detectors at all entry and exist points will be ensured while necessary closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and watchtowers were installed in and around the ground.
‘We have enough preparations to ensure a smooth holding of Eid jamaat in the historic Sholakia maidan,’ the SP confidently said.
Eid jamaat began on Sholakia ground in 1827. More than two lakh people are expected to participate in the biggest Eid congregation on Sholakia maidan.
Noted Islamic thinker, former director general of Islamic Foundation Moulana Md. Farid Uddin Masud, will lead the Eid prayers.
Dewan Haybet Khan, the sixth generation of Isha Khan, the ruler of Bengal, donated 7 acres of land for the Sholakia maidan.
