Tampaco fire: Rescue operation on for 7th day, ‘10 still missing’
Gazipur: Army personnel and fire service men have been carrying out rescue operation at the fire-ravaged ‘Tampaco Foils Ltd’ factory site for the 7th day as 10 people remained missing as per a list made by the district administration.
While visiting the spot, the UNB correspondent found firefighters and army personnel working to remove the debris of the collapsed building with heavy machinery.
Family members of the missing victims are still anxiously waiting on the spot with photos of the victims.
Meanwhile, officials and workers of ‘Tampaco Foils Ltd’ in Tongi BSCIC Industrial area formed a human chain on Saturday morning demanding immediate reopening of the factory.
They also sought the Prime Minister’s intervention in reopening the factory.
A fire, apparently triggered by a boiler explosion at a packaging factory in Tongi on 10 September killed at last 34 people and injured nearly 40 while the blaze collapsed parts of the four-storey building.
