Court orders confiscation of Ragib Ali’s assets

Sylhet: A court in Sylhet on Monday asked the authorities concerned to confiscate the assets of fugitive accused industrialist Ragib Ali in a case filed over grabbing land of an endowment property.
Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hiru also ordered publishing the names of fugitive accused in the case in newspapers, reports UNB.
Besides, the court granted bail to Pankaj Kumar Gupta, current caretaker of Tarapur Tea Garden following a petition filed by his lawyer.
Earlier on 10 August, a court here issued arrest warrants against six people, including Ragib Ali and three of his family members, in two cases filed over grabbing land of an endowment property.
The other accused are Ragib's son Abdul Hye, his son-in-law Abdul Quadir and daughter Rozina Quadir, Dewan Moshtaque Majid and Pankaj Kumar Gupta.
Following the court order, Ragib Ali managed to flee to India.
SM Abdul Hye, land commissioner of Sylhet Sadar, filed the two cases with Sylhet Kotwali Police Station on 27 September 2005.
