Fair probe into RU teacher’s suicide demanded

Rajshahi: Teachers and students of Rajshahi University’s Mass Communication and Journalism Department on Wednesday demanded fair investigation into the alleged suicide of RU teacher Akhter Jahan Jolly to bring those provoked her to take her life to justice.
The demand was made at a human chain formed in front of the RU Central Library at about 10:30am, reports UNB.
Speakers said it is obvious that anyone can be forced to commit suicide through physical and mental pressure.
The students and teachers demanded that a fair investigation be carried out into the suicide of the RU teacher so that those involved in instigating her to take the extreme step can be brought to the book.
Before the human chain, they brought out a mourning processing from the Mass Communication and Journalism Department that paraded major streets on the campus and ended in front of the Central Library.
Earlier on September 9 last, Jolly, 45, an associate professor of Journalism department of the university, was found dead in room No 303 of teachers' residential block, Jubery Bhaban, on the campus.
A suicidal note was also found in her room.
Kamrul Hasan, brother of the teacher, filed a case the following day without mentioning the name of anyone for provoking her to commit suicide.
