Jhenaidah: A Bangladeshi cattle-trader was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Baghadanga border in Moheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah early on Friday.

The deceased, Jasim Uddin, a resident of the village of Shoilabaldia in Chuadanga, was shot to death near Hazrakhali BSF camp inside Indian territory at about 2:30am, said Jhenaidah Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion 58 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Tajul Islam.

Tajul Islam said Jasim along with others intruded inside Indian frontier to bring cattle while a vigilant team of BSF from Hazrakhali camp opened fire.

Jasim received a bullet from the firing and died on the spot.

However, BSF claimed two of their members were injured as the cattle traders also attacked on them.

Body of Jasim has been kept at Hashkhali Police Station in India, said the BGB battalion 58 commanding officer.

The Lt Col said BGB send a letter to BSF authorities for bringing back the body home. A flag meeting will be held in this regard.
