Patient dies being injected by ‘outsider’ at DMCH
Dhaka: A patient died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) reportedly soon after an ‘outsider’ pushed him an injection on Friday afternoon.
The deceased is Biplab Mondal, 20, son of Bimal Mondal of Madhyapara in Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital.
Biplab had been undergoing treatment at the DMCH Neurosurgery Department from September 18 due to the head injuries he received in a motorcycle accident, UNB reported.
Biplab was scheduled to be discharged from the hospital on Saturday as his condition improved.
One Sumon injected him at about 4:00pm as there was no nurse at that moment and his condition deteriorated soon after the injection, claimed his relatives. At one stage, he died.
Later, angry relatives and mob gave Sumon a good beating before handing him over to the DMCH police camp.
Sources said, although Sumon is neither a permanent nor a part-time employee of the hospital, he used to work like a ward-boy at the DMCH. It was alleged that there are many ward boys at the DMCH like Sumon who earned their livelihood taking money from the families and relatives of patients.
Contacted, DMCH deputy director Abdul Gani said he is yet to be sure whether Sumon is an outsider or employee of the hospital. ‘We’ll unearth the matter through investigation,’ he said.
Shahbagh police officer-in-charge AB Siddique said police rescued Sumon while being beaten by the angry mob at the hospital.
‘We’re also investigating the matter,’ he added.
