Serial killer Rasu Kha to die
Rasu Kha, the man who was accused of killing 11 women, has been sentenced to death, the first verdict among the 10 cases filed against him.
Chandpur District and Session’s Judge Arunav Chakrabarty delivered the verdict on Wednesday.
Rasu was handed down the death penalty for killing apparel worker Shahida.
Lawyer Sayedul Islam Babu was the public prosecutor, while Naimul Islam, being appointed by the state, argued on Rasu’s behalf in the case hearing.
Rasu Kha, who used to pilfer at the district’s village Modna, got arrested by police on 7 October 2009 for stealing at a mosque.
But later on he confessed to the killing of 11 women and also said he had plans to reach a target of killing 101 women.
A total of 10 cases were filed against him with Chandpur and Faridganj police.
Among these 10 cases, there were nine murder charges, while in one case Rasu was charged under women and child repression act.
Earlier Rasu’s cases were transferred to Chittagong Special Tribunal which acquitted him of one charge.
Later on, the tribunal sent the cases back to Chandpur court.
Rasu Kha is currently kept at Chittagong jail, and was produced before the court for receiving the verdict.
Case description says that Rasu Kha, often dubbed as serial killer, mostly killed apparel workers whom he used to bring to Chandpur from Savar or Tongi making fake promises of love or marriage.
He was said to rape the women with poor family background before killing them.
The identities of the many of his victims are still unknown.
