Jamalpur: An elderly man was killed allegedly by his drug-addict son at Bausi Chandanpur village in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur early on Sunday.

The deceased is Mamtaz Ali Mandol, a resident of the village.

The Sarishabari Police Officr-in-charge Rezaul Islam Khan said Omar Ali, son of the deceased, demanded some money for buying drugs from Mamtaz at about 3:00am.

When Mamtaz refused to give him the money, Omar beat up him.

At one stage, Omar hit Mamtaz with a stick, leaving him dead on the spot.

Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Sunday morning.

Omar went into hiding after the incident.
