Faridpur: The newborn baby girl, Galiba Hayat, who died on Sunday after being found alive during burial was laid to eternal rest in Faridpur on Monday.

Galiba was buried at Alipur graveyard of the district town at about 5:00pm following a namaz-e-janaza at central Eidgah in Kamalapur area of the town.

The baby died at Square Hospitals Ltd in the capital on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee, headed by Rajbari civil surgeon Dr M Rahim Box, was formed to look into the matter, said Faridpur civil surgeon Dr Arun Kanti Biswas.

Earlier, a six-member team, headed by Faridpur additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Dr AKM Qamruzzaman, was formed to investigate the matter.

The committee is likely to submit its report on September 29, said AKM Qamruzzaman.

Earlier on Saturday, the baby girl was sent to Dhaka by a helicopter for better treatment.

Six hours after a physician declared it dead, the newborn baby was found alive while being buried at Alipur graveyard of the district town on Thursday morning. The incident was called a miracle by people.

Advocate Najnin Akhter Popy, wife of Nazmul Huda Mithu, was taken to Jahid Memorial Child Hospital in the district town at about12:30 am on Thursday after she went into labour. Popy gave birth to a baby girl through normal delivery only after 24 weeks of her pregnancy.

However, Rezia Alam, a physician of the hospital, declared the baby dead two hours after its birth. Later, the family members took the baby in a carton to the graveyard at night for burial. They left the graveyard keeping the carton with the baby inside it at a grave as the authority of the graveyard asked them to come in the morning.

The family members and locals again came to the graveyard in the morning to bury the girl. However, it cried out when the carton was opened. Later, the baby girl was taken to the same hospital.
