Kishoreganj: President Abdul Hamid on Thursdat urged teachers of educational institutions in the haor areas to give special attention for raising quality of education.

‘You (teachers) have to give attention so that the quality of education in this area is increased. Because when I tell the guardians to visit me after written examination, I see 90 per cent candidates fail in the written examination. All have to work so that candidates can get job by dint of their merit, not by lobbying,’ President Hamid said.

Pointing at the students, he said ‘It is not enough to pass in the examinations. You have to acquire knowledge as there is no alternative to it. You have to work hard in this regard.’

The President hoped that the students will take the haor area forward by acquiring quality education.

About solution to various problems of the haor areas, Abdul Hamid said there are many problems in the haor areas. He suggested the lawmakers in the haor areas to raise the problems in the parliament saying, ‘I am head of the state, not head of government.’ The President was addressing a programme marking the silver jubilee of Muktijoddha Abdul Haque College on its premises.

Education secretary Sohrab Hossain, secretary of the President Office Shampad Barua, cabinet division additional secretary Mohiuddin Khan, Dhaka Education Board chairman Prof Mahabubur Rahman, principal of the college Abdul Haque, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Local lawmaker and president of the governing body of the college Rezwan Ahmed Towfiq presided over the programme.
