Sirajganj: A man has allegedly taken his own life after killing his daughter at Shahidganj Dakkhinpara of Sirajganj town.

Police recovered the bodies of Selim Reza, 38, a grocer, and his daughter Soha Moni, 7, a local kindergarten student, from their house on Friday morning.

Police and locals said Selim, son of late Abdul Mazid Sheikh, married Anwara Parvin Rumi, daughter of Ali Azam of Shahjadur upazila, nine years ago.

However, Anwara left Selim two years after their marriage keeping her daughter Soha with her husband when she was only 40-day-old baby.

Finally, she divorced him on July 28 last, which added to Selim’s frustration.

Taking to reporters, Selim’s mother Setara Begum said Selim fed her and Soha soft drinks laced with sleeping pills on Thursday night. She also saw him standing by her with a pillow in his hand at night. However, she went into sleep again.

Setara said she found Selim hanging from the ceiling in his room after she woke up on Friday morning. Later, family members found Soha’s body in another room.

On information, police recovered the bodies of the duo and sent those to hospital for autopsy.

Police also recovered a suicide note written by Selim from his room, which reads: ‘I’ve lost to life. I’ve made my exit from the earth along with my mother and daughter.’

Selim later revised the note that reads: ‘I couldn’t take my mother with me. I and Soha went away together. Please forgive me.’

Talking to reporters, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Helal Uddin said they suspected that Selim got frustrated after receiving the divorce letter from his wife and took his own life after killing his daughter but he failed to kill his mother.
