Regan ‘confesses’ to involvement in Gulshan attack
Dhaka: Militant suspect Rakibul Hasan alias Regan, arrested during the Kalyanpur drive on July 26, reportedly confessed before a court here on Monday to his involvement in the Gulshan café attack.
Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Ahsan Habib recorded Regan’s statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), reports UNB.
In his confessional statement, Regan said he was the trainer of the five militants who were killed in a commando operation at the Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan on July 2 after a 12-hour hostage crisis, court sources said.
He also told the court that he had been aware of the Gulshan attack plan beforehand, the sources said.
Police arrested Regan with bullet wounds while trying to flee during a drive in a militant den in the city’s Kalyanpur area on July 26.
Later, Regan was shown arrested in a case filed in connection with the Gulshan café attack under the Anti-terrorism Act. He was also put on a nine-day remand in two phases.
