Patuakhali: A woman was beaten to death allegedly by her husband, co-wife and two step sons at Kanai Mridha Guchchho village in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali on Monday night.

The deceased is Kulsum Begum, in his twenties, wife of Kefayet Ullah Munsi, a resident of the village.

Quoting family members, police said Kefayet Ullah Munsi married Kulsum three years ago.

After marriage, Kulsum lived in her father’s house.

On Monday night, Kefayet Ullah called for Kulsum, and the latter along with her father went to the former’s house.

At one stage, Kefayet, his first wife Halima and his two sons Rakibul and Nayem beat up Kulsum mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Patuakhali Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Kefayet and his family members went into hiding after the incident.

Kalapara Police Officer-in-charge GM Shahnewaz confirmed the murder.
