SUST suspends Badrul over attack on college girl

Sylhet: The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has suspended Badrul Alam for attacking Khadija Akter, a student of Sylhet Government Women’s College.
The decision was taken at the regular meeting of the university at about 5:00pm, said SUST Vice-chancellor professor Aminul Haq Bhuiya.
Besides, a three-member committee, headed by professor Rashed Talukdar, has been formed to investigate the incident.
The committee has been asked to submit its report as soon as possible.
Earlier on Monday, Khadiza Akter Nargis, 23, daughter of Masuk Miah of Biswanath upazila, was stabbed allegedly by SUST unit BCL leader Badrul Alam on her way home from college following the ‘refusal of his proposal for having an affair with him.’
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued Khadija and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing.
Khadija was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Dhaka at about 12:10am on Tuesday as her condition deteriorated. She has been kept on life support at a hospital in Dhaka.
Badrul was also admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in police custody.
