Badrul confesses to attempting to murder Khadiza

Sylhet: Badrul Alam, a BCL leader of its Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit who was arrested for stabbing college girl Khadiza Akter, confessed to his crime before a court here on Wednesday.
Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Umme Sharban Tahura recorded Badrul’s statement under section 164, reports UNB.
AC (prosecution) of the court Touhudil Islam said, ‘Badrul confessed that he had stabbed Khadiza.’
After recording the statement, the court sent Badrul, 27, to jail.
Earlier, he was taken to the court amid tight security from Osmani Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment in police custody.
Badrul told Shah Paran thana police that he had bought a Chapati (machete) at Tk 260 on Monday and tried to kill Khadiza for refusing his proposal for having an affair with him.
Khadiza, 23, a student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was stabbed by Badrul on her way home from college on Monday.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued Khadiza and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing.
Khadiza was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Dhaka at about 12:10am on Tuesday as her condition deteriorated. Later, she was kept on life support in Dhaka’s Square Hospital.
