Gazipur: A case was filed with Joydebpur Police in connection with the drives in which nine militants were killed in their hideouts in Gazipur.

Khandaker Rezaul Hasan, officer-in-charge of the police station, filed the case under arms act on Sunday morning.

Earlier, nine militants were killed in separate operations conducted by police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members in militant’s hideout in Patartek and Harinal areas of Gazipur on Saturday.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, ‘Two militants were killed during Rapid Action Battalion’s (RAB) raid on a lemon garden at Harinal in the morning. Another seven militants, including neo JMB chief Akash, were killed during Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit’s raid on another house which is one kilometers away from that area.’

Two other suspected militants were killed as law enforcers raided an alleged hideout of militants in the village of Kagmara of Tangail municipality area, said the Tangail RAB-12 Commander Mohiuddin Faruque.

Being tip-off that a gang of militants is staying at the house, a joint team of RAB and police conducted a drive there at about 11:00pm, said the superintendent of Tangail police Mahbub Alam.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers around their house, the militants opened fire at them.

As the law enforcers retaliated, it triggered a gunfight, leaving two militants dead and two others injured.
