Lakshmipur: An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with police at Raipur upazila in Lakshmipur in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased is Delwar Hossain Rajon. He is accused in three arms and eight robbery cases, said the Raipur police.

Raipur Police Officer-in-charge Mohammad Lokman Hossain said police arrested listed robber Rajon from the area early on Sunday.

Later, police conducted a drive with Rajon in Uttar Koroya area of the upazila at about 4:00am on Monday.

Sensing the presence of police, his associates opened fire at them.

In retaliation, the law enforcers also fired back which triggered a gunfight. Rajon was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

Meanwhile, five police members were injured in the incident.

Police also recovered an LG, three bullets and three machetes from the spot.
