Journos come under attacks during city polls duty

Dhaka: Journalists who covered irregularities at various polling centres during the city elections to Dhaka south, north and Chittagong city corporations came under attack, harassed and threatened allegedly by ruling party activists in many ways.
The activists of Awami League and its associations reportedly shot a journalist and physically assaulted at least 10 others. They also purportedly threatened and terrorised dozen others while discharging their duties at various polling stations.
The bullet-hit journalist was identified as Yeasin Rabbi, a reporter of newsportal risingbd.com. He was shot at a polling station in Basabo area.
He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) following the incident.
The Daily Star reporters, Porimol Palma and Mahbub Rahman were beaten by activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) near the Dhaka Medical College while Prothom Alo senior reporter Sujoy Mohajon, Daily Jugantor senior photo journalist Shamim Noor, its staff reporter Obayed Angshuman, and Jamuna TV camera person Akhlak Safa were beaten and harassed by ruling party activities in different part of Dhaka during covering irregularities in polls.
A daily star reporter, Rafi, was warned of dire consequences by the ruling party men as he tried to record an incident of ballot stuffing while visiting the Kamalapur Shere Bangla High School at 11:00am.
Meanwhile, Indrajeet Ghosh, photojournalist of the New Age, was beaten by ruling party men at Kabi Nazrul College centre at 10:00am. He was taken to the DMCH.
In Chittagong City Corporation, a reporter and a cameraman of a private television channel were injured in an attack reportedly by some terrorists while taking the video footage of a clash and capturing of a polling centre at Halishahar in the port city.
The injured were identified as senior reporter Azad Talukder and cameraman Jahirul Islam of Ekattor Television channel. The attackers also vandalised their video camera.
The injured journalists were admitted to Chittagong General Hospital.
They alleged that the Rab members and police present there did not come forward to help them.
