Rajshahi: A college girl was found hanged from a ceiling fan at Salma Khan Women’s Hostel in Barnali area of Dhaka on Thursday night.

The deceased is Mahbuba Islam Munni, 17, a first year student of Rajshahi Masjid Mission School and College and daughter of Manirul Islam of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj.

Quoting hostel owner Bazlur Rahman, police said Munni was the boarder of a single bedroom of the private dormitory.

He said Habiba, a friend of Munni, knocked on her door at about 9:00pm. As she got no response from Munni, Habiba peeped into her room through its window only to see she was hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf.

The hostel authorities then informed the police about it who later recovered the body breaking open the door at about 10:30pm.

The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Shahadat Hossain, a sub-inspector of Boalia Police Station.
