Teenager back home after being ‘smuggled’ 8yrs back
Khagrachhari: Nurul Islam, now 15, who ended up being ‘smuggled’ to neighbouring India eight years back, has finally returned home to the joy of his family.
Indian immigration authorities handed Nurul, 2nd child of rickshaw-puller Sarbat Ali, over to Bangladesh police through Benapole checkpost on Friday night, reports UNB.
This led to a teary reunion when his parents who somewhere deep down in their hearts knew they would meet him again received him at the checkpost.
Nurul, then 7, went missing from Khagrachhari New Police Lines area in 2008.
Rois Uddin, assistant superintendent of Khagrachhari Police, said a team of Indian Police in a drive rescued some children, including Nurul, in Delhi in July last. Later, they informed the matter to the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi.
Informed, district superintendent of police Mazid Ali took steps to bring back the boy from the neighbouring country.
Although Nurul could not recollect how he went to India eight years ago, he is happy at finding back his family, said the ASP.
