5 sentenced to death for killing farmer in Habiganj

Habiganj: A Habiganj court on Tuesday sentenced five people to death and 27 others to different terms of imprisonment for killing a farmer in Nabiganj upazila in 2002.
The condemned convicted are—Anis, Foras, Jamsed, Bazlu and Nur Islam—all residents of Boaljur village in Dighalbagh upazila. Jamsed, Bazlu and Nur remains absconding.
According to prosecution, Nur along with his men attacked Moktadir Ali, a farmer of the village, as he protested when one of Nur’s cattle foraged his ripe paddy field, leaving him dead on the spot on 20 February in 2020.
Later the victim’s brother Mosahid Ali filed the case against 40 people in this connection with Nabiganj Police Station.
Police submitted charge sheet against 35 people. Among the 35 people, three people died in different times.
After examining all the records and 16 witnesses among 19, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mafroza parvin handed down the verdict.
