Gazipur: Police on Thursday submitted a charge sheet against detained Gazipur City Mayor MA Mannan and 43 local BNP leaders and activists in a violence case filed last year.

Gazipur district BNP president Fazlul Haque Milon was among the charge-sheeted accused.

Joydevpur thana police submitted the charge sheet to Gazipur senior judicial magistrate court. Later, the court fixed May 12 for hearing on the charge sheet.

On December 27, 2014, a group of miscreants vandalised a microbus carrying some journalists and a leguna (human hauler) in Nagarbari area of the city during a hartal enforced by BNP.

MA Farid, a local journalist, filed a case against 30 BNP men, including mayor Mannan, and some 15-20 unidentified BNP activists with Joydevpur Police Station on the day.

On February 11, 2015, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested Mayor Mannan from his Baridhara residence in the capital in an arson case.

Later, he was shown arrested in some other cases.
